Noninvasive Cardiac Output Estimation Based on Oxygen Consumption During Stress Test
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cardiac output (CO) is one of the most important hemodynamic signals to measure in patients with compromised cardiovascular performance. A variety of cardiac output estimators have been developed over the past hundred years. The estimator evaluated in this paper is based on oxygen uptake measured during exercise to estimate cardiac output and use heart rate (HR) to obtain also stroke volume (SV). Most important is that estimation is noninvasive and can be used during the stress test. The results for well trained and untrained persons are also shown. Key-Words: Cardiac index, cardiac output, stroke volume, heart rate, spiroergometric examination.

Cardiac Output Estimation Based on Oxygen Consumption during Exercise Test on Bicycle Ergometer
Cardiac output (CO) is a cardinal parameter of cardiovascular state, and a fundamental determinant of global oxygen delivery. Historically, routine clinical measurement of CO has been limited to critically-ill patients, often with invasive indicator dilution methods such as thermodilution. A variety of cardiac output estimators have been developed over the past hundred years. The estimator eval...
متن کاملCardiac output and cardiopulmonary responses to exercise in heart failure: application of a new bio-reactance device.
BACKGROUND Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) is widely used to evaluate heart failure (HF) patients, but lacks information about ventricular performance. There is a need for a noninvasive cardiac output (CO) measurement. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty-three HF patients and 13 normals underwent CPX and CO measurements with a new, noninvasive, bioreactance technology based on assessment of rel...
متن کاملCardiopulmonary stress testing. A review of noninvasive approaches.
With readily available techniques, cardiopulmonary exercise testing permits noninvasive measurement of such parameters as heart rate, cardiac output, oxygen saturation, ventilation, and gas exchange to bring out abnormalities which are either underestimated or not detectable at rest. These parameters may be used to characterize a patient's primary limitation of exercise tolerance as either card...
متن کاملBioreactance is a reliable method for estimating cardiac output at rest and during exercise.
BACKGROUND Bioreactance is a novel noninvasive method for cardiac output measurement that involves analysis of blood flow-dependent changes in phase shifts of electrical currents applied across the thorax. The present study evaluated the test-retest reliability of bioreactance for assessing haemodynamic variables at rest and during exercise. METHODS 22 healthy subjects (26 (4) yrs) performed ...
متن کاملDiscrepancy between cardiac and physical functional reserves in stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Understanding the physiological limitations to exercise after stroke will assist the development of targeted therapies to improve everyday function. This study defines (1) whether exercise capacity is limited by the cardiovascular system (oxygen supply) or skeletal muscles (oxygen utilization); and (2) cardiac function and pumping capability in people with stroke. METHO...
